Win Out West

Entries are open for the 5th Annual Royal Perth Show, with both commercial and amateur brewers encouraged to take part. Last year, 250 beers were submitted – including 86 from home brewers – with Feral, from Swan Valley, taking out the top prize, winning best Australian beer, WA beer and ale. This year, organisers have set up a free freighting option for interstate commercial brewers to encourage even more entries. There are collection points at central locations in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide from which SCT Logistics will deliver entries free of charge.

Deadline for entries is April 29, with judging taking place at the Claremont Showground on June 13. Fifteen trophies will be awarded across the following categories: lager, ale, stout, reduced alcohol and wheat beer in both draught and packaged form. Six special trophies will also be awarded to commercial and amateur beers such as Best Amateur Brewer, Best Amateur Beer of Show, Best Champion Commercial Brewery, Best Commercial Beer of Show, Best WA Brewery, Best WA Beer of Show.

Exhibitors are then invited to join a mix of industry representatives from around Australia at the Perth Royal Beer Show Awards Presentation Dinner on June 17. It includes a three-course meal matched to a selection of quality beer. A venue is yet to be confirmed, although bookings must be made by June 4.

An invitation-only Trade and Exhibitors’ tasting takes place the following day at the Claremont Showground where beer sellers, wholesalers and exhibitors will be able to taste commercial and amateur beers and talk with the brewers. It’s in the Wattle Room, with the Trade Tasting from 1.30pm to 2pm and the Exhibitor Tasting following from 2pm until 4pm.

For more information on how to enter and where to find the interstate collection points, contact Cecilia Crawford on (08) 6263 3156, email beer@perthroyalshow.com.au or head to the event website.
