Blog of the Month: Ambersandwich

Many Aussie beer drinkers across numerous states will know Kris Miles. One of the founders of the sadly-no-more Nectar bottleshop in Brisbane, then hop spirit-infusing cocktail creator at Beer DeLuxe and now bar manager at the MONA Winery Bar in Tassie, he now spends much of his spare time with his partner Caroline playing around with beer, wine, spirits, food and pretty much anything else they can get their hands on. This experimentation has formed the basis of his blog, Ambersandwich, which he tells you all about – and more – here.

Name(s): Kris Miles & Caroline Kiehne

Name of Blog: Ambersandwich

When Started: August 2011

Areas of Interest: Craft Beer, Beer and Food Matching, Good Times.

What we do when not blogging:
Kris: I work at MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), the home of Moo Brew. Caroline works as a Barista at Augusto Cafe. We also spend a lot of time traveling, visiting farmers' markets, breweries and wineries.

Why did we start the blog: We have been talking about starting our blog for a couple of years now. We just wanted to share our passion for great beer and great food.

People should read our blog because… it is an approachable blog that shows how enjoyable and rewarding cooking and matching food and beer can be.

Favourite Australian Beer: It’s too hard to choose one. It depends on the weather, where we are and what we are eating. We love Australian craft beer.

Favourite non-Australian beer: We love extreme American craft beers. 2IPAs, Imperial Stout, Rye IPA.

Favourite place to enjoy a beer: Anywhere that you can drink great beer and share great company.

Hopes for Australian Beer: It is exciting to be a part of the Australian craft beer movement. Hopefully the Government sorts out excise cuts so that more craft breweries can open up and existing craft breweries can continue to supply great beer to the general public.
