Moffat Beach Find Unique Ways To Bring Communities Together

Moffat Beach Brewing are well-known for their regular awards success but before they became trophy-hoarders, they were a small brewpub built for their community. Not all that much has changed along the way, with the Sunshine Coast brewery team finding unique ways to connect with locals in Moffat Beach and Caloundra.

You can read the full media release about their choirs, disco parties and rock-paper-scissors tournaments below.

From rock paper scissors to speed friending… unique events bring communities together at Moffat Beach Brewing Co

When most people think of heading to the pub for an event, it might be for the regular trivia night or to watch sport on the big screen. One local brewpub however, is mixing things up, offering a diverse range of events from choir style singalongs to outrageously competitive rock paper scissors tournaments.

With their two venues in Moffat Beach and Caloundra, and a strong history of supporting local musicians, community groups, and events, Moffat Beach Brewing Co has been a part of the Sunshine Coast landscape for over ten years. In recent times, partly prompted by the changing local demographic, the award-winning brewery has staged a raft of events designed both to welcome newcomers to the Coast and excite locals with something new.

These have included regular ‘Brewpub Chorus’ events, where choirmaster Jen Young of local music school Just Sing Out leads the crowd in learning to sing a few popular songs, even dropping in some three-part harmonies along the way. No singing experience is required, and audiences enjoy the freedom to belt out a number amongst friends, family and of course, complete strangers!

A recent ‘Beer & BBQ Degustation Dinner’ was a standout on the local calendar, where guests enjoyed five courses of American BBQ inspired cuisine, each matched with two Moffat Beach beers. After learning more about each beer from Head Brewer & Co-Founder Matt Wilson, it was then up to the audience to vote on the best beer and BBQ pairings. Based on its popularity, plans for a ‘Grape vs Grain’ (wine vs beer) dinner are underway.

Family events have also proven a massive hit, with Family Bingo nights, Kids Disco parties, and Sunday Funday mini-festivals featuring face painting, jumping castles and art & craft keeping the little ones entertained while parents could enjoy a meal and a beer.

Coming soon to the brewery’s Beachside venue is a ‘Mix & Mingle Speed Friending’ event where attendees will have the opportunity to meet likeminded people in a facilitated and welcoming session while enjoying a cheeky wine, cocktail or beer.

Wilson described the brewery’s unique events as “new ways to introduce people to the family-friendly and community focussed atmosphere of a brewpub. It’s also about responding to our changing community. With our speed friending event for example, we know that with kids, work, and all the rest, it can be harder to meet new people, especially if you’ve just moved into the area”.

“For us, every event we stage is just part of our DNA… it’s about bringing people together for a good meal, good beer, and a good time. We’re not into pokies or having a TV screen on every wall, that just doesn’t make sense to us.”

When asked how the brewery’s recent Rock Paper Scissors tournament fits into that plan, Wilson remarked “well ok, that one was a little bit of silliness, but I tell you what, it was fun!”.
