There’s been rejoicing in bottleshop aisles this weekend as the first major delivery of beer from Murray’s, one of NSW’s finest breweries, arrived in Melbourne. They’re going one step further this week when, on Tuesday evening, brewery founder Murray Howe and head brewer Shawn Sherlock head to St Kilda as guests at the latest Local Taphouse Ale Stars.
The session will feature several Murray’s beers, with a couple of surprises apparently in the pipeline. Given they’re the team behind recent hop explosion Spartacus, the hop-tinged, full bore, black-as-night Wild Thing Imperial Stout, the remarkably floral and flavoursome yet just 3.9% Punch & Judy and, of course, the Icon – a beer to make you glad you were born – it promises to be a special occasion. What’s more, someone told Crafty the other day that Shaun and Murray are never seen in the same room together, hinting at some sort of Superman / Clark Kent situation.
So, if you fancy tasting some fantastic beers and being there when the truth about the Port Stephens superbrewer’s true identity is revealed, you need to pre-book via the Taphouse website. $40 will get you in the door for beer samples and food, plus the regular quiz from host Shandy and the chance to squeeze in a few “tweenies” from the other 16 taps.
