This isn't the first outing for Noodledoof's dessert-in-a-can. It first appeared ahead of Christmas 2022, when we figured it presented a alternative to the pavlova-inspired beers for someone wanting to pair their festive dinner with liquid pud.
It returns at an arguably more suitable time of year for a rhubarb custard-inspired beer: as the temperatures are dipping and such hearty desserts start making appearances on dinner tables. Once in a glass, it looks like such a dish put through a blender: murky and of a shade that sits between golden ale and the Yarra.
Flavours you'd associate with crushed biscuit and vanilla are there, yet it slips down pretty smoothly – it's certainly not heavy on the palate – with the gentle tartness of the lactobacillus and fruit seeing to that.
