Sailors Grave first used the Sou' East tag for one of their beers back in 2017 when they created the most "normal" beer of their then relatively short existence in the hope of winning over pubs and clubs in the East Gippsland region they call home. Sou' East Draught proved to be a winning gambit and now has a sibling of sorts.
The origins of Skipper are reflected in the can design: it was while out on one of Gippsland's lakes, with bearded brewery co-owner and head brewer Chris Moore at the wheel, that the team noticed just how many fellow sailors were drinking a certain big brand mid-strength. Why couldn't they claim some of that market for themselves with a beer that was genuinely from down here rather than pretending to come from up there?
That led to the creation of this bright, deep golden mid, one that marries mash-fresh cereal sweetness and a little honey with some fruity esters, a hint of something floral, and a crisp finish. Nothing more. Nothing less. Job done.
