Pedra Pale takes its name from Pedra Branca, which passionate topographers would well know is more rock than the island and is one of only two places in Australia with a name of Portuguese origin. In a surprising turn of events, however, that name doesn’t stem from Portugal but from the South China Sea, where another Pedra Branca sits, its the translation meaning "white rock".
But Deep South Brewing’s Pedra Pale isn’t white or even pale; the beer instead pours with a beautiful, deep and golden hue thanks to the use of crystal malt atop the Golden Promise base. Hopped with a mix of Australian and US varieties, Pedra’s inspiration is the early pales that kicked off the American craft beer revolution so expect the Tassie classic to serve up citrus and spice with a slight sweetness and a building bitterness.
