Dry July is over. It's time to move onto the next thing on the calendar that rhymes - IPA Day.

Technically, it's International IPA Day - and there are some incredible IPAs around the world that are worth getting your hands on in the name of enjoying the humulus lupulus.

But as the Australian beer scene keeps growing in leaps and bounds, it's becoming more and more the norm for venues to showcase fresh, local hoppy beers on this day of celebration (not to mention the other 364 days of the year). When you consider how much IPAs thrive when they're fresh, it's hard to argue with this trend.

Here are some of the events around the country where you can get in on the action this IPA Day (and for the few days following). The number of quality Aussie examples of the style is inspiring, and there are a number of international beauties scattered throughout to keep us from becoming too parochial.

Time to cram hops into your mouth like a chipmunk crams acorns into its cheeks.

Modus Operandi IPA & Food Pairing Masterclass At Carwyn Cellars - August 1

Bring your thirst, hunger, and an appetite for knowledge to Carwyn Cellars. After a welcome beer, you'll get taken through six different IPAs - matched with six foods - by Modus brewer Evan Whitworth, who'll talk all things IPA, from brewing techniques to hop profiles to ideal drinking temperatures. Fixation Brewing Bar Shout At Penny Blue - August 1

Industry Event: HPA Presentation At The Incubator - August 1

Hop Products Australia (HPA) will be presenting at this IBA Mash Up, giving an industry update and hot tips. IPA Day At The Unicorn Hotel - August 1

Start IPA Day with some Fixation - after all, the Unicorn Hotel in Paddington is open from 11am. Fixation IPA and Obsession Session IPA will both be on tap all week (July 29 - August 4), and there's a $200 prize pack from Fixation up for grabs - two cases of IPA and some merch.

IPA Day Tap Takeover At The Grain Store - August 1-3

Three days. 21 taps of IPAs. A total of 46 IPAs (32 local, 14 international). Newcastle's Grain Store is usually a bar with an Aussie focus, but with some of the extraordinary hop bombs available around the world, they've opened up their range for a few days of IPAs. See the full tap list here.

IPA Day Masterclass At Modus Operandi - August 1

Come get some insider knowledge into the style that changed the way many of us drink beer. Let the Modus crew take you through a three hour masterclass, guiding you through five IPAs (including new special releases and the return of an old favourite) and breaking down how they got to the recipe and flavour for each. IPALAND At The Quarryman's Hotel - August 1-3

IPA Day At Ballistic Beer - August 1-4

The folk at Ballistic Beer take IPA Day so seriously that they let it run for four days. From Thursday through to Sunday, at both their Salisbury brewery and the West End Alehouse & Kitchen, Ballistic Beer will have a varied lineup of seven IPAs, with three brewed specially for the event. IPA Day At Newstead Brewing - August 1

How far has hop technology come? Newstead Brewing have made two IPAs with the same recipe, malts, alcohol content, fermentation characteristics... but different hop methods. Hoptopia uses hops in their most natural state - whole hop cones only. Mechopolis looks to 100% hop derived products - CO2 extracts, oil extracts and chemically modified hop components. Come to either the Doggett St or Milton brewery to try them and pick your favourite.

IPA Day At Brewski - August 1

The boffins at Brewski scoff at the idea that only one day of the year is dedicated to IPAs. But they'll still make an effort to fit in. They're putting on six different varieties of IPA, from both near (Ballistic, Black Hops, Hop Nation) and far (Stone and Left Handed Giant). Here's the tap list to get you excited. IPA Day At Dutch Trading Co - August 1

It truly is International IPA Day at DTC. As well as a few breweries representing our Australia (Bright Tank, Modus Operandi, and Mornington Peninsula), they've got IPAs from Ghost Brewing from Denmark; Beerbliotek from Sweden (new to Australia); Bearded Iris and Foreign Objects from the USA; and a collaboration from a couple of little known breweries, Trillium (USA) and Garage Project (NZ).

IPA Week At Kings Head & Sturt Street Cellars - July 29-August 4

One day isn't enough for Kings Head and Sturt Street Cellars. They're celebrating IPA Day all week long. Their seven-day tap takeover includes five super limited Collective Arts collaboration IPAs from the Beer & BBQ Festival, as well as IPAs from Pirate Life, Clare Valley Brewing, Reckies, and a few others.
