The Great Australian Beer Festival turns eight in 2020 and is doing so at a new venue.
After seven years at the Geelong Racecourse, the festival is moving into the heart of the city, taking up residence in Johnstone Park on January 18.
The festival has grown to the point where it attracts up to 5,000 beer lovers each year, with festival director Michael Ward having watched craft beer move into the mainstream since they launched in 2013.
“GABF to me is all about exploring and discovering good beer," he says, "and there will be 40 interactive themed bars providing over 200 beers and ciders to taste on the day.”
The festival has always been about more than the beer, with entertainment also to the fore.
In 2020, the main stage headliners are Sneaky Sound System, while Kim Churchill and local bands The Kite Machine and The Run will also be performing on the day.
The new site will also host educational sessions, food trucks, wandering cabaret acts, a Piano Bar run by Geelong’s Andy Pobjoy, a dance-off and a competition to find the best beard.
