Towards the end of the year, Maitland Gaol typically plays host to Bitter & Twisted Beer Festival. The celebration of craft beer is a chance for locals to soak in the historic atmosphere of the impressive of prison and enjoy a range of beers from the area's brewers and those from further afield.
Even though COVID has meant that Bitter & Twisted 2021, like 2020, couldn't go ahead, that hasn't stopped the organisers from wanting to find a way to celebrate and champion beer. They've done that by bringing together local brewers, publicans and artisans to create a weeklong celebration of beer called Twisted Beer Week, which promises to become a permanent feature of the Bitter & Twisted calendar and return in 2022.
Included in the program is The Rigby in Maitland playing host to Wildflower's wild ales, while Coquun will be showcasing the wares of local outfit Shout Brewing on November 27 and 28.
