It seems reasonable that this time of year may have you wishing you were walking the banks of the Isar on your way to some sprawling Munich biergarten draped in blue and white checkered flags. But, really, why bother going all that way when you can just hop the Alexandra Canal and find yourself immersed in a microcosm of Germany's famed beer festival courtesy of the South Sydney Brewers Oktoberfest?
This year the big celebration returns to the home of Rocks Brewing in Alexandria on October 14 and it will see eight local and independent breweries – Bracket Brewing, One Drop, Slow Lane, Yulli's, 2 Halfs, Frenchies and The Social Brewers, plus the hosts – showcasing a glut of European-style beers with a bit of modern brewing flair.
Starting at midday, there'll be entertainment all day long and all the traditional trimmings and trappings, from steins to sauerkraut and schnitzels. And as if you'd mis your annual chance to bust out the lederhosen and dirndl, German themed outfits are encouraged and there'll be prizes for the best dressed.
