Get set for more gluten free gluttony as TWØBAYS Brewing's national 'Free The Taps' takeover returns for a fourth year.
Running in conjunction with Coeliac Awareness Week (March 13-20) the Mornington Peninsula brewery will be dispatching its gluten free beers to a host of top beer spots across the country. All up they'll be "freeing" more than 65 taps with 15 different global beer styles, including cold IPA, West Coast lager, Belgian farmhouse style saison, English brown ale, Japanese rice lager, Irish stout, Aussie draught - all of them gluten free, and several that don't normally get seen beyond the brewery's own taproom.
The celebration will also see the limited release of the second incarnation of Australia’s first ever gluten free Hazy IPA, Broader Horizons. This is a beer that was collaborated on with Carwyn Cellars, included in their Canvent Christmas gift packs, and evidently praised enough to warrant a return, with some refinements, and a wider release in cans later this month.
But to the event at hand, here's what's happening in each state...
- Melbourne - Head to The Fox Hotel any day between March 13-20 and get stuck into ten taps of TWØBAYS. Similarly, Carwyn Cellars will have six gluten free taps pouring, plus they'll have the official launch of the gluten free Hazy IPA, with the TWØBAYS brewing team in the house on March 15.
- Adelaide - From March 13, two Coelaic Australia endorsed venues – The Duke of Brunswick and the Port Admiral – will be boosting their 100 percent gluten free food menus with an expanded range of gluten free beers; nine at The Duke and six at the Admiral.
- Brisbane - On March 16, Brewski will be pouring six TWØBAYS taps alongside a gluten free food menu.
- Sydney - With twelve taps pouring, Hotel Sweeneys will be hosting what's possibly the country's biggest lineup of gluten free beers (and that includes TWØBAYS' own brewery which only has 11 taps...).
- Launceston - Saint John Craft Bar will be rejoining the celebration for Coeliac Awareness Week, pouring five keg-only special releases.
- Perth - The good folk at Besk will be serving up five five taps during Coeliac Awareness Week 2024, with four keg-only specials and one core range favourite.
- Canberra - The Dickson Taphouse will be expanding their permanent gluten free tap for the week with a couple more special releases and a gluten free food menu.
