The premise and promise of this festival is so to-the-point they just stuck it right there in the title: Beer. Footy. Food. What's not to love?
Indeed, there's more to love this year compared to previous editions as the 2024 edition of the Beer Footy & Food Festival takes its old-school Rugby League glory days vibe further afield for a huge triple header, with events at Marrickville's Henson Park, a two-day epic at the North Sydney Oval, and for the first time, a stop in the League heartland of Newcastle.
Taking place between April and July, each event will see fans flock to good 'ol fashioned suburban grounds to watch much-loved local League teams charge and tackle the crappers out of each other for a full round of domestic competition. But don't expect a sterile modern stadium experience. No, this is old-school footy, where mates and families sit together on the grass and halftime has kids invading the pitch to hoof balls around.
And for extra entertainment they'll have the legends from Pro Wrestling Australia putting on the big hits – with absolutely no rules for foul play and no judiciary to speak of.
Meanwhile, off the field you'll be able to tuck into loads of different beers from dozens of breweries local to the sports grounds, while a fleet of food trucks and stalls serve up footy food that's a thousand times better than the overpriced soggy chips of days gone by.
