Beers of the Burbs Grand Final 2024

A couple of months ago, Molly Rose launched the second edition of a friendly competition that pits Melbourne suburbs (and their drinkers) against each other in a good ol' fashioned "Ours is better than yours!" beer-off.

Called Beers of the Burbs, it involved getting teams together at five top beer spots across the city, pooling ideas and recipes and creating a beer that best represented the home suburb. The teams comprised the following:

  • The Local Taphouse representing St Kilda
  • Hopheads representing Yarraville
  • Carwyn Cellars representing Thornbury
  • Beermash representing Armadale
  • Miss Moses representingBrunswick

Fast forward to today and all the Beers of the Burbs beers have been brewed and are patiently waiting the forthcoming Grand Final taste-off.

It's happening on August 29 at Molly Rose with all five beers getting tapped for the first time, but only one is set to triumph. To get to that point, they'll have $25 tasting paddles which gives you a glass of each beer, plus a token to vote for your favourite (you'll also get a voting token if you buy any of the BOTB beers). The beer with the most votes wins – and given last year's beer won by just five votes, it could be tight again so you'll want to have your say if you're vested in the the outcome.

The champion beer gets the honour of being canned (see last year's 'Stolen Lemons' session IPA from team Brunswick, pictured above) so the glory of the winning suburb can be spread across Melbourne and beyond.

Voting begins from 6pm and entry is free.
