For the past few years, women from the local beer industry have joined their counterparts in overseas countries for an annual brew day as part of Pink Boots, the society which seeks to raise the profile of women working in all facets of the beer industry.
In Australia, each year's brew day attracts more people than the last, with the 2016 event certain to go one better. It will feature brews at several breweries across the country, no doubt hoping to replicate the success of last year's Neneh Cherry Saison which was named the country's champion French/Belgian Ale.
If you're a woman that works with beer, makes beer, sells beer or just drinks it, you're welcome to head along to one of the following events on Saturday March 5:
VIC
White Rabbit Brewery, Geelong, 12pm-6pm
The Victorian chapter of Pink Boots is inviting all ladies to come along and help brew a Salt & Pepperberry Gose. Lunch will be on offer, as will free sensory education sessions run by Kirrily Waldhorn (Beer Diva) and Tiffany Waldron (Beer Girl Bites) at 1pm and 3pm (these are limited to 20 people per session, so be in quick). There'll also be an all access tour of the Little Creatures brewery campus.
NSW
HopDog BeerWorks, Nowra, 12pm
Tess Thomas has sent husband and regular brewer Tim off to work at a beer festival for the day and will be taking control of the brewhouse. She's lined up a recipe for a Raspberry CaraRye Gose and if you'd like to come and give her a hand brewing (and naming) the beer, you're welcome any time from midday. It's a free event and there'll be pink cupcakes and raspberry tarts to sweeten the deal.
The beer will be launched at a beer high tea on Saturday April 2, with all proceeds going towards the Pink Boots Society and furthering the work of women in the beer industry [we'll post the event and ticket details closer to the time].
Rocks Brewing Company, Sydney, 8am
It's an early start in Alexandria, with the brewing of a wheat beer infused with finger lime commencing at 8am. Breakfast from the brewery kitchen will be available from 10am before heading back into the brewhouse to finish off the brew. If you;re coming, they're encouraging you to wear pink.
