Job Description: Senior Brewer
Thunder Road Brewing is a proudly independent brewer making thirst-quenching beers, ciders and seltzers from its award-winning brewery in Brunswick. We are looking to expand production and for this reason looking for a highly experienced, commercially savvy Senior Brewer.
Reporting to the Master / Head Brewer the Senior Brewer is hands-on and could work across all aspects of brewing production. Working with a team of well-skilled and highly motivated brewers the Senior Brewer duties include:
- Supporting the Master / Head Brewer and Quality Manager in Brewery and Quality decision making, including coordinating daily operations and brewing schedule, ordering, recipe formulation and alteration, HAACP.
- Brewing on our production and pilot brewhouses (including milling and grain out), plant CIP, yeast handling, beer clarification (centrifuge/filtration), raw material and chemical handling.
- Carry out basic beer analysis, (alcohol, bitterness, gravity).
- Carry out scheduled equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure the site is operating efficiently in line with strict safety and hygiene processes in place.
- Delivering on quality and cost whilst driving a positive continuous improvement culture.
- Ensure full compliance with Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and company policies.
To be successful in your application, we are looking for the following skills and experience:
- Well qualified with an IBD Diploma or similar qualification
- Previous experience in commercial brewing.
- Proven brew production coordination/supervision experience within a commercial brewery is essential.
- Technically minded with a hands-on and can-do approach.
- Strong leader of people, someone capable of leading change and developing an excellent working culture and ability to maximize the team’s performance and contribution through clear direction.
- Quality conformance, analysis and plant hygiene (including experience with HACCP / GMP).
- Excellent communication skills – capable of effectively communicating the production plan, targets, process & requirements.
- Have a sense of urgency and a can-do outlook.
- Lean Six Sigma or similarly qualified in continuous improvement.
Please note: some rostered weekend work is required (fermentation checks) and a reasonable amount of physical strength to move machinery and kegs.
