Job Description: Process Improvement Lead – Brewing

Brick Lane Brewing is a proudly independent brewer making awesome beers and ciders from its world-class brewery in Dandenong.

We are seeking an experienced Process Improvement Lead to join our fantastic Operations team with a focus on Brewing.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the development, training and implementation of core processes and projects to ensure the continuous improvement and development of Brick Lane’s operational processes in Brewing.

Reporting to our Brewing Manager and working closely with our Operations team, key responsibilities will include:

  • Defining, communicating and implementing continuous improvement rollout plans for Brewing;
  • Developing and embedding Continuous Improvement methodology, training, coaching and assessing for Brewing;
  • Ensuring optimisation of process equipment through the use of CI and lean principals and tools, active operator management, process monitoring and troubleshooting;
  • Effectively communicating job knowledge and process changes to the operations team members and management through various forms of daily communication (shift handover meeting, daily production meetings, email, action logs, work orders, etc);
  • Ensuring Brewing SOPs are up to date and effectively communicated and embedded across the team;
  • Actively mentoring and coaching operators, leads, and supervisors and ensure focus of the team is on safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Implementing and championing visual management systems in the workplace;
  • Undertaking and coordinating continuous improvement projects and other projects within brewing;
  • Developing, implementing and training staff in the use of structured problem solving tools (5 why, DMAIC etc).
  • Developing and delivering training to new staff and assess staff competency in key procedures, including development and maintenance of training records and tools.

This position will at times be required to rotate through shift production, including occasional night shift, to support Shift Lead leave coverage. 

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Previous experience in a brewing (or related industry) environment, with a specialisation in technical brewing;
  • A relevant degree or qualification is essential, specifically in chemical engineering, process engineering, or brewing, and technical industry qualifications (for example DipBrew, MBrew);
  • A Cert IV/Train the Trainer, Six-Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing qualifications or equivalent will be highly regarded;
  • Experience in implementing CI projects, experience with statistical process control;
  • Training and coaching experience, including the development of training materials and plans;
  • Strong leadership and people skills, with excellent stakeholder management and project management (planning and organisational) skills;
  • Strong written communication skills and computer literacy, and;
  • Strong reasoning ability and problem-solving skills.
