Many businesses in tourist regions have been impacted badly by the current fire season, and this includes small breweries and the venues that support them.
Among the regions affected are those around Canberra. Mat Farrington is the man behind CanBEERra and has compiled a roundup of the businesses open for business once more and eager for visitors. He's allowed us to publish his article in full.
The regions around Canberra are open again after the bushfires and they’re calling for visitors. The Princes Highway is open as far south as Eden, and the Braidwood Road, Kings Highway and Snowy Mountains Highway are open restoring access to the mountains and NSW south coast – places that would normally be buzzing with activity at this time of year.
Here is a list of businesses you can support that offer great local and indie beer and who value provenance and local community. This is not a complete list. In particular the breweries have beer on tap at other locations.
So do keep a look-out for their beers elsewhere, and if you’re somewhere that’s not offering local beer maybe now is a particularly good time to ask them: "Why not?"
Even if you can’t get out to support these places, some have online stores or gift vouchers. Also look out for regional beer in good Canberra bottleshops and bars.
