Brew & A: Ironhouse Brewery

The first ever Hobart Beer Lovers Week is up and running and in just over 24 hours the Tasmanian International Beerfest returns to the city’s waterfront. So we figured it was as good a time as any to focus our Brew & A series of features on one of Tassie’s brewers.

This time around. it’s Michael Briggs, or as he’s more commonly known, Briggsy from Ironhouse, the brewery with its own private white beach on Tasmania’s east coast. The brewery will be pouring beers at the Beerfest, their delicious Honey Porter is part of the Crafty Curates tap lineup at Tattersalls Beer & Food Hall but will their Pale Ale be the one we’ve chosen to represent Tassie at our Pint of Origin Blind Tasting event tonight…?

Anyway, without further ado, over to Briggsy (above with a face full of hops).

Favourite Australian beer (other than your own)?
Too hard to narrow down to one but for the sake of the argument i would say Hop Hog IPA from Feral.

Moo Brew limited release barrel aged Stout (Velvet Sledgehammer) gets the blood pumping to the right areas also.

Epiphany beer – the one that set you on the road to becoming a brewer?
VB. I thought surely I could do a better job than this!!!

Desert island beer – the one to keep you going if you were stranded for the rest of your days?
The “HOFF” IPA From Ironhouse (of course). Sharing With Dannii Minogue.

Favourite beer and food match?
Pork Ribs and American Pale Ale.

What are we likely to hear cranking from the stereo on brew days?
Guns And Roses -Welcome To The Jungle. Yeahhh!!!

Favourite place to enjoy a drink?
On a desert island with Dannii Minogue.

If you were a beer style, what would you be?
A Red Ale, obviously. Yes, I’m a ranga!

The best thing you’ve ever traded for beer?
A lot of sponsorship deals are done using this form of currency.

When I’m not making or drinking beer, you’ll find me…
Fishing. (Wait a minute I drink when I fish)

Motorbike riding. Maybe I would ride better if I did drink…

Your hope for beer in Australia?
That a political party is created and voted in called the “Craft Movement”. Their number one policy will be to abolish Tax Excise on the craft beer sector. I would vote for that.
