Uraidla have once again been invited to work with NZ Hops' Bract Brewing Programme, deservedly so given the impeccable quality of their first Mana release. That beer utilised NZH-102 (now called Superdelic) in a juicy IPA; the 2023 Mana features additions of NZH-106. Derived from NZ hop Riwaka, this new experimental variety showcases many of the typical qualities expected from hops from that part of the world. And, in typical Uraidla fashion, every drop of hop oil has been extracted to create a beastly 7 percenter.
The hop aroma is incredibly intense and moreish, clawing at the inside of your nostrils with big, dank, resinous claws. If New Zealand patented their own version of weed aromas, this would be it. Floating in the background in more subdued form is peach, with the intense resin joined by stone fruit and a touch of pineapple to taste. Initially sweet before drying out just a little, full of and mild of bitterness, Mana 2023 is an absolute hop monster.
