After debuting at the inaugural Eastside Hop in June, an event that saw beer lovers ferried between Suburban, Little Bang and SixTwelve's breweries, Suburban’s Vienna Coffee Lager is now out in cans too, merging the cleanliness of a lager with big and bold cold drip coffee. The latter comes from local roasters 1645, who selected beans of Peruvian origin for a beer you could theoretically drink at any point in the day.
Pouring dark amber in colour with flickers of red, Vienna Coffee Lager oozes coffee throughout – in a good way. It appears in rich espresso form, working with more subtle undertones of biscuit, chocolate, hazelnut and a little creaminess. Add in a crisp, dry finish, along with a smooth coffee bitterness tying it all together, and you've got one tasty collaboration.
