When people think of Straddie, many think of Point Lookout: it’s home to gorgeous beaches, has the best surf spots on the island (Main Beach is the place to go), and it’s one of the best land-based whale watching locations in the world. So when head brewer Andrew Sydes was creating Straddie Brewing’s core range, the iconic Point Lookout gave him the inspiration to brew an iconic style of beer: a Bohemian-style pilsner.
Point Lookout Lager sits in a place between mainstream and craft-mainstream in that many more people are familiar with pale lagers than other kinds of beer, but craft in that this beer doesn’t pander to the lowest common denominator of flavours. It’s a full-bodied lager flowing with floral hops, heady spice and a clean but powerful bitterness that lingers for as long as you could want.
