Straddie Brewing are obviously well-placed to make sessionable and approachable beers. Plenty of visitors to the island showing up, spending time in the sun, and going out diving or on boats? Lower alcohol lagers and pale ales (and a core range gose for fun) are going to be the order of the day for most people.
But even in that context, sometimes you have to say: "Stuff it" and make a nine percent ABV DIPA.
It’s kinda fun having a classic hop (Chinook) and a newer hop (Nectaron) dance around together; they definitely both bring their best moves. I found that dankness and stonefruit are the two standout aromas, strong-arming more subtle notes out of the way for now. Not that I’m complaining – it smells wonderful. But when you begin to drink, all kinds of other flavours show up. There’s pine and grapefruit peel, strawberry candy and mango, orange pith and even some nuttiness caught up in the bitter bite at the end.
