Brad is a Queensland-based devotee of good beer and critic of people who prefer their oysters cooked. In 2014, thieves broke into his home and only stole the five cartons of beer he won in a GABS Hottest 100 beer competition – he’s been rattled ever since.
The beer(s) or moment(s) that turned me on to good beer:
It might not have been the moment but I’d like to think that all those steins of dunkel and hefeweizen I drank at the Brisbane German Club in the years before I knew what a hop was must have quietly transformed my tastes.
You've got three beers to turn someone else on to good beer; what are they and why?
Ballistic Beer Hawaiian Haze – a beer that cuts straight to the chase in its overt pleasantness.
Rodenbach Caractere Rouge – a masterclass in balance and complexity, and the kind of beer that could impress someone who covets a wine like Henschke Hill of Grace.
Badlands Brewery Pilsner New World – a familiar bright, crisp lager but hopped with enough Nelson Sauvin to make it truly interesting.
The last beer you enjoyed (at time of writing):
A tiny can of Newstead Brewing’s A Long Story Short wheat wine.
Three things that represent you:

Few would have foreseen the Gold Coast becoming a craft beer powerhouse, yet it most certainly has. And now, following the opening of Madocke's taproom, it's even home to a brewery specialising in classic Belgian beers too.

The Gold Coast has added another notch to its brewing belt with the opening of the region's first barrel room. AWOL sits behind Black Hops' original home in Burleigh Heads and is already home to more than 100 barrels.

The Crafty Pint is an independent online magazine and resource for anyone interested in craft beer in Australia. We bring an honest, old-fashioned journalistic approach to beer's brave new world, telling stories because they're worth telling not because someone is paying us to write them.
Like many of the people who have changed the face of beer in Australia, we believe in authenticity, integrity, enjoyment and love. We hope to play a role in helping good beer, brewed by good people, find its way into the hands of more drinkers.
