It’s a long way from Melbourne’s Bayside to California’s beaches (and sadly, we’re not sure the former has as much respect from surfers as the latter) but Bad Shepherd have seeked out a slice of it with a California IPA.
The style, which we explored with some depth here, is a leaner, more tropical twist on West Coast IPAs which the brewery have Pahto, Idaho 7 Cryo, Azacca Cryo and El Dorado. While we're unsure what the Golden State tastes like, you can't help but feel a mix of sherbety orange, tropical and pine is somewhat perfect for California as a clean, lean and bitter side carries through.
