Bad Shepherd Brewing Take Off, Eh!

The start of July is always a particularly special moment at Bad Shepherd with the brewery taking the time to celebrate cofounder Dereck Hales’ Canadian roots. For 2023, they’re kicking their Canada Day celebrations off with a bottomless brunch and keeping the good times rolling into the evening with a Poutine Party.

As part of the festivities, they’ve also brewed the maple red ale, Take Off, Eh! Done well, hoppy reds are a wonderful display of balance and here, that’s undoubtedly true. Rich and chewy malt notes are complemented by citrus hops and while you might expect the maple to come along and ruin a finely-tuned beer instead, its added earthiness and soft sweetness ensures Take Off, keep its finesse.
