How does a glimpse into a possible future sound? Horrifying? You’d prefer to not know? OK, maybe you don’t want to see all that murderous AI and feel the planet burn, but what if you could just try some of the nice parts like hops that don't have names yet?
Good news: Bright Brewery have teamed up with HPA to make that so, with a couple of Experimental Hazy Pale Ales. The two beers were made the same way but split off to see what some of these new varieties can do, which means both are soft, smooth and quite juicy affairs while still differing significantly.
HPA-3029 seems to sit on the sweeter side of fruit: ripe mango, melon and orange juice with a dash of grapefruit thrown into the mix. By comparison, HPA-4029 is more floral and has plenty to offer by way of pine, while still leaning into more modern hop territory thanks to its passionfruit, peach and a touch of zesty citrus.
Fear not the future: at least the hops are tasting good.
