Any time I go for a run, I spend a fair chunk of the time fantasising about the kind of beer I’d like to drink when I finally stagger through the front door at home. It’s always lean in the mouth, fairly dry, but packed with fruity hop character: a punchy-but-sessionable pale, or a vibrant XPA.
Point Perry is the embodiment of that fantasy.
It’s not only about the hops, since a tasty streak of malt runs through it as well, characterised by biscuit and a touch of caramel. But that’s there to hold together oodles of hop flavour: there’s sticky stonefruit, there’s dry pine, there’s orange, and there are a few other sweet fruits dancing around the edges.
The finish is quick and clean, but somehow I still wouldn’t describe this beer as "crisp", since that usually connotes a lack of flavour. And there’s no lack of flavour here.
