Trappers Tripel may be based on the classic Belgian style, but Mitta Mitta Brewing have taken a decidedly different approach to theirs. Although it was brewed close to Mount Bogong, the beer features barley from a very different mountain range: the Himalayas: Tibetan Purple Barley.
The ancient grain is grown by Voyager Craft Malt, and has a 3,000-year history of being farmed in that part of the world. It also brings unique flavours to beer, in this case quite a bit of almond character as well as an earthiness. Ripe fruits from the yeast blend with a sweetness similar to lollies from those old-timey shops you still find in country towns. No trap here, just a distinctive treat.
