Footscray is known for many things, but when you hear the suburb’s name, the next thought in your head is unlikely to be "surf's up". But, apparently, in certain moments, an elusive wave can rise out of the water beneath the Westgate so locals can catch a break. Hop Nation and St Andrews Beach Brewing came together to brew a tribute to that elusive wave called the Footscray Boardriders Club (which I would absolutely love to join, whether they were dedicated to surfing or skating).
You can see whether they caught the wave in their video, but regardless, the XPA does feel like the kind of beer you’d want to drink post-surf. It gives Australia’s Eclipse a starring role and in doing so, the crisp, lean, pale and quite hoppy creation brings out plenty of mandarin and orange along with a piney and resinous side.
