Brouhaha New Farm Pear Sour

Sunshine Coast-based Brouhaha are one of a handful of Aussie operations that's managed to create a fruited sour popular enough to become their flagship. In their case, it's their insanely fruited Strawberry & Rhubarb Sour – Strawbarb to its mates – so it's little surprise they opted for such a beer when invited to feature in the 2023 GABS pack.

It pours with an opaque cloudiness that suggests it’s not just heavily juiced but also lactosed. But no, it's just yoghurt, pears aplenty and a dash of ginger at work creating the full, textured mouthfeel. The ginger adds a sharpness more than heat or prickle, enhancing the tartness along the way, in a beer that both quenches and leaves a lingering sweet acidity in its wake.

Like a freshly-prepared fruit juice, really, but with added booze.
