Clarity in a world of Haze
Whitelakes’ t-shirt slogan accompanying the second release in this limited "Extended Series" announces an interloper into the opaque mist that’s consumed beer styles for much of the past half decade. As well as a brewing concern, each release is near stoically considered and, most importantly, well-constructed. Ergo, faddish concerns have no place in Baldivis, a notion that extends to the retro royal green and gilded accents within the can design which suggest the lid should have a ring pull opening...
In the glass, cold-conditioning for nearly three months has rendered a very smooth IPA featuring light toffee malt and fine carbonation. American Centennial, Amarillo, Cascade and Simcoe hops offer a fleeting floral nose that gives way to pithy citrus and pine needle dust. And, as the tight bitter prickle envelops the tongue, a soft, dank lilt starts rising, the words steadily becoming clearer: "Clarity in a world of Haze. Clarity in a world of Haze."
