A month or so before the Wayward brewery officially opened, a quick tour of the unfinished cellar door with brewer Shaun Blissett pointed out a large vacant area in the corner which he hoped might one day be occupied by a substantial barrel ageing program. That hasn't yet eventuated, but he apparently did manage to get something in barrel not long afterwards and the result is ready to drink.
Batch 0001 of the beautifully named 'Laneway Reserve' series is a blonde sour that's been aged in a Hunter Valley Shiraz barrel since October 2015 and you'll be able to try it for the first, and only, time at the Royal Albert Hotel as part of a tap takeover evening.
On Thursday May 12 the local-loving Surry Hills boozer will be pouring nine Wayward beers, as follows:
- 'Laneway Reserve' Batch 0001 - Blonde Sour
- Charmer India Red Ale
- Fat Charmer Double India Red Ale
- Keller Instinct Bavarian Lager
- Rose Kolsch (charity brew with Cystic Fibrosis NSW)
- Sourpuss Raspberry Berliner Weisse
- Funky Cold Medina 100% Brett Pale Ale
- Midnight Barley Cowboy Hopped Porter (handpump)
- Furious Gnome English Special Bitter (handpump)
