Following the ninth anniversary of the death of the legendary beer writer, Michael "The Beer Hunter" Jackson, Boatrocker is putting on a weekend celebrating the work he did to raise the profile of beer around the world by pouring some of those he regarded highly at the brewery.
The event is called The Beer Hunter's Magnificent Seven, with the seven beers being:
- Anchor Brewing Company Liberty Ale
- Brooklyn Brewery Chocolate Stout
- Fuller's ESB
- Chimay Grande Reserve
- Rodenbach Grand Cru
- Orval Trappist Ale
- Schlenkerla Weizen
Those will be supplemented by the Boatrocker range.
On the anniversary of Michael Jackson's passing, Boatrocker founder Matt Houghton had the following to say:
"Today marks the anniversary of the passing of arguably the most influential beer writer in history.
Widely regarded as the first beer writer and creator of modern beer styles as we know today, Michael Jackson sought to put beer in its rightful place alongside the other great alcoholic drinks by researching and categorising the myriad of beers. It was his ‘Pocket Guide to Beer 1995’ that I used as my ‘guide book’ around Europe for 12 months. It was his ‘Beer Hunter’ show on SBS back in the 80’s that opened my eyes to the cultural and historical importance of the finest beverage on earth, beer.
There are many good beer writers around today, but in my opinion none so versed in beer styles, nor so clever with words as MJ. Today we’re raising a glass of the 'ultimate aperitif’ in his honour."
