Each year the legendary Wellington beer bar, The Malthouse, hosts what has grown into an incredibly popular event called the West Coast IPA Challenge.
The idea behind it is to invite New Zealand’s top brewers to each prepare a beer in the style of the American West Coast IPA, tap them all at the same time, have a massive hoppy love-in and declare one as the winner.
This year is a little different, at least for drinkers in Australia, as the team from The Local Taphouse has managed to get its hands on ten of the top IPAs from the comp and is hosting a showcase in its St Kilda venue.
The lineup will be as follows:
- Panhead – Yank Tank (7%)
- ParrotDog – Wood Rose (7%)
- Renaissance – Pako! (8.2%)
- Fork and Brewer – Bouq (6.5%)
- Moa – Perris Sky Juice (7.2%)
- 8 Wired – Russelmania (6.3%)
- Garage Project – Party & Bullshit (6.7%)
- Epic – Thor (8.8%)
- Tuatara – Centennial Highway IPA (8%)
- Liberty Brewing – The Nine (6.4%)
Quite naturally there’s going to be a limited amount of stock of all these beers so if you’re keen to catch ‘em all you’d best be in quick when the kegs are tapped at 6pm.
