Ian Watson loves European beer styles. And since he’s the head brewer at Happy Valley, you can love them too!
From the fruity esters to the spicy phenols, Small Batch Saison brings the full personality of a yeast-forward saison. It’s naturally cloudy in the glass, with the saison yeast bringing banana, pepperiness (though there’s also some peppery fresh hop character), and intense clove bitterness.
Le Harvest, on the other hand, is a malt bomb: a bière de garde that smells like caramel ice cream. It’s silky smooth with rich toffee and malt caramel, but is surprisingly dry and light for a seven percent beer. Eleven kilos of Red Earth hops – freshly picked with the team at Hilltop Hops down the road – contribute their soft woodiness to the mix, balancing out any sweetness in a way that makes this beer greater than the sum of its parts.
