For many, fruited sours will be the beer of choice as summer slides into its scorching peak (I'm clocking 39C at time of writing...) and, while there will be plenty of options bandied about, Boston have proven themselves more than capable of serving up something particularly quenching.
Their first new release for 2024 is inspired the non-alcoholic agua fresca’s often sold by Mexican street vendors, in which they’ve included lime and hibiscus. Not straying too far from the originals, they've kept theirs to a mere 3 percent ABV.
To taste, this sour is as light-bodied as you'd expect, its flavour profile reminiscent of lemonade with a splash of lime cordial. A spritzy carbonation further boosts refreshment while hibiscus lingers in the background after each sip. Acidity is balanced, with fresh lime contributing some of the zesty tartness.
