Blackman’s Brewery have rolled into 2024 much like they left it: with an armload of of hoppy delights. Easy Roller was brewed with one of Australia’s finest rollers of all time too, Cadel Evans’ whose race (the aptly named named Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race) goes past the Torquay brewery in late January. Having never ridden, nor won, the Tour de France, I can’t say what beer is best suited for the moment you cross the finish line but Blackman’s reckon and easy drinker hazy pale is the way to go. It’s certainly that, with a melenge of mango nectar, melon and orange juice a;ll balanced by a dry finish and soft body.
Dialling up the fruit is Blackman’s Mango Passionfruit Ice Cream IPA which they made with Anglesea’s Gelato Gelato and Beerstagram’s The Hazy Squid. With oats and lactose making for a quite a smoothie-like beer, the flavours are unsurprisingly led by passionfruit and mango and it's safe to say that if you poured some into a glass of vanilla ice cream, you might well have the summer afternoon of your dream.
