You see words like “salted caramel” and you tend to expect stout to come next but Blackman’s Brewery have gone in a different direction with Salted Caramel ESB. If you lament the lack of ESBs available, the added adjuncts might lead to some concern but fear not, there’s still a lot of classic English bitter to enjoy with a clear earthy and herbal side from the choice of hops.
Although it might be orange over jet back, the beer remains malt-driven too, with prominent caramel and toffee notes from the caramel malts joining sweeter tones from the added vanilla and chocolate. But there's a little to cut through that richness too, while both a building bitterness and added sea salt shining through towards the back of each mouthful.
