When Hop Nation and Fox Friday come together for a brew day, it feels a little inevitable that they would decide to put hops at the forefront of any collaboration and here they’ve gone from one extreme to another. That’s quite literal too given the names of the two beers, with Some Of It a West Coast pilsner dressed in Fox Friday’s garb and featuring Mosaic, Motueka, Pacific, Mandarina and Simcoe. The style is one the country’s enjoying a bit of a love affair with (well, this writer certainly is) and the pair’s take on the hoppy lager has seen them provide notes of freshly-cut grass, pine and stonefruit to a dry, clean and quite bitter beer.
Then there’s All Of It, which is a different kettle of hops and looks a whole lot more Hop Nation, with the 10 percent triple IPA an impenetrable hazy made with Simcoe (using both pellets and Cryo), Citra Incognito, Motueka, Strata and Freestyle’s Motuekea SubZero Hop Kief (OK so there might be some hops repeating here). Unlike it’s sibling, All Of It is incredibly thick, with a slick mouthfeel that leans into a boozy warmth while the hops provide mango, rockmelon and nectarine which taste as if it’s been packed into a smoothie at levels that the maker had little concern for cost or common decency.
