The star of craft beer has long been hops, but is it terpenes' time to shine? For a little while, breweries in Australia have been experimenting with the aromatic compounds that are particularly prominent in cannabis and hops. But now that Bintani are bringing the popular Abstrax terpenes into the country, are we about to experience a tidal wave?
Bad Shepherd certainly have their surfboard ready, with the brewery’s Pineapple Express a West Coast IPA that’s been dosed with King Louis XIII and Pineapple Express terpenes. Alongside those, they’ve also packed in Pahto, Idaho 7 Cryo*, Cascade, and El Dorado hops to create an incredibly pungent beer that packs in perfume and dank pine alongside a citrus that’s not quite like the whole fruit and is more akin to a lemon lolly.
