Bowden Brewing might be a small outfit, but they're not ones to shy away from experimentation. Here, they've dipped their toes into some of New Zealand Hops’ experimental varieties; hops without names that we might one day enjoy more widely, but which, for now, are part of the hop growers’ global Bract Brewing Programme. NZH-106 is a pilsner that’s super crisp and brings a proverbial tonne of tropical fruit – think guava and mango smashed into one – along with grapefruit and a floral bouquet.
NZH-109, meanwhile, is a pale ale that could use the prefix "super" thanks to its particularly light golden hue. Here, the citrus is more tangerine and mandarin, while passionfruit packs a heavy punch and while there's plenty of fluffiness to the beer's overall mouthfeel and appearance, it soon snaps shut with a clean and dry finish.
