Since 2017, Stomping Ground have partnered with Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival to create PRIDElweiss, a beer that delivers a portion of profits to a program that supports emerging LGBTQIA+ artists. To date, the brewery’s raised more than $45,000 for the Midsumma Futures program and in 2022 they’re hoping to raise a further $15,000, which is to say, if you buy this can, you'll help support an important cause.
Both the can and what’s inside have changed, with the new design inspired by the Progress Flag, which includes black and brown stripes to represent people of colour, and blue, pink and white for trans representation. The beer itself is a fair way from the original Midsumma witbier too, although it’s not too far removed from the hoppy wheat ale style it’s followed in more recent years. Now dubbed simply a "Midsumma Ale", changes to the yeast and hopping rates mean PRIDElweisse 2022 sits snugly in the hazy pale ale camp with quite a thick mouthfeel and a range of juicy notes. Those come from the combination of Citra, Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin hops, which provide passionfruit, lychee and lime, with a touch of pine and a soft but bitter finish.
