“I could drink that with ice.”
So says my non-beer drinking companion, and, on the near 40 degree day of this review, I doubt many would argue. It hits the exact sweet spot of accessibility and fun which has been luring drinkers into the sour beer realm over the past few years, a sideshow alley garnished with a wink and smile, or in this case, a cinnamon quill.
What pours here is akin to pulp-free juice, albeit with an aromatic sub-continental spice mix which becomes more intriguing in the glass as a sour zing joins proceedings. And then it’s on! A roll call of spice with ginger, cardamon and cinnamon appearing fleetingly alone before retreating harmoniously into the sweet mango mix, itself lifted with vanilla. Sweetness falls aways, acidity and tartness subside, and the short dry riposte offers a reminder that this – ice or not – was beer after all.
