Cornella Brewery has been experimenting with Nectaron for some time. In late 2021, I wrote about Electro Nectar for the Bendigo Beer blog and that was followed by Neutron Nectar in March 2022. Electro Dude continues the brewery's romance with the New Zealand hop varietal and as is something of a reimagining of Electro Nectar that showcases the hop in the brewery's well-established 'Hop Dude' series. Like its predecessor, it doesn't lean heavily into hazy, featuring a more translucent appearance than opaque as notes of passionfruit stand out among the fruit salad aromatics. The same flavours linger on the palate with a hint of sweetness and slightly dry finish to the light-bodied tropical sipper.
Then, in time for St Patrick's Day, is Old Town. The dry Irish-style stout comes complete with nitro, so with a gentle shake off the can and a vigorous pour, you can indulge in your own slice of Ireland. Compared to the well-known global brand and its lesser-known southern Irish equivalent, Old Town has a more prominent roasted malt character and bitterness while also being more effervescent, perhaps at the expense of a negligible amount of creaminess. The complete package is another example of why there's no compelling reason to choose the foreign example, so grab your nearest branded glass and see if you can split the O.
