Bridge Road have been making hop-forward beers longer than most in Australia and with a twin release, their eyes are fixed firmly on the future. Thiolized Hazy Pale was brewed with a thiol-releasing yeast from America’s White Labs called Tropicale Blend (don’t worry Border Force; it’s not the GMO kind). To free those thiols, Bridge Road picked Nectaron, Centennial, Mosaic and El Dorado for a tropical charge so intense, maybe Border Force should actually be worried. Largely, that's led by quite a nectar-like fragrance and palate of pineapple and mango, while peach and orange juice join the altogether lush, soft and creamy pale.
Cali Double IPA meanwhile is no less modern and plenty tropical but takes us to a crisper, leaner world of hops. Here, the brewers have used Centennial, Amarillo, El Dorado, Strata and Mosaic (in the shape of Spectrum) and provide tangy mix of citrus and stonefruit as a gentle bitterness makes itself known.
