Having donuts for breakfast is only marginally more healthy than having beer for breakfast. But at the point where you’re having both at the same time, I guess health probably wasn’t the main criteria when you were picking this morning’s meal.
Green Beacon have partnered with Allpress several times (pretty much every time they want to use coffee in a beer), and this time they’ve brought the roaster’s coffee together with cinnamon donuts, oatmeal and golden syrup, piling it all into a stout that's not as sweet as it sounds. In fact, it isn’t very sweet at all; don’t go expecting the pastry treatment here. This stout – which has a gorgeous mocha head, by the way – brings a roasty oomph to the relatively subtle flavours of the breakfast ingredients.
It’s the coffee that stands tall, with the rest playing second fiddle (or second breakfast, if you will). While the beer technically only contains 40 IBUs, the coffee brings a long-lasting bitterness that hits low but hits hard.
