When greeted by Seasonal’s head brewer Kalle Wevel and his new release, we spend most of the conversation discussing nudibranch, or as he calls them "dope sea slugs". Adorned by snorkellers and divers, these aquatic, shell-less creatures are pimped with all manner of colours and forms – no two are alike. Gracefully doing its sea slug thing, the nudibranch has provided inspo for this "naked" oat cream NEIPA.
Pardon? Naked oat cream??
Nudi omits lactose to create a vegan / lactose-free oat cream IPA, the lush liquid the result instead of "lots of oats, DIP hopping and biotransformation". A touch of whirlpool Idaho 7 meets Yakima Chief’s experimental HBC 638 dry hop, delivering an effortlessly smooth meld of sweet citrus, papaya, dried pineapple and pulsed tropical fruit. Berry notes mix with Lifesavers candy, the homogeneous whole veiling a feint herbal note, while the lack of residual sweetness often found in such beers lifts drinkability.
Smooth, nude and with plenty of personality, not unlike our new nudibranch friend.
