Cold IPA's frost has swept west, into a region where drinkers should have a strong appetite for the lean style given that India pale lager’s similar vibe is firmly entrenched, perhaps more so than anywhere else in Australia. Ye, while Seasonal’s Cold IPA brings with it aspects of the hoppy lager, it’s very much a punchy IPA, which is the point where some falter when attempting the style of the moment’s balancing act.
The result here is a beer that will prove welcoming and approachable enough for the majority of the brewpub’s broad audience, while maintaining intrigue for those seeking out complexity. Nelson Sauvin, Idaho 7 and Mosaic hops combine with a biotransformative yeast to deliver tangerine, citrusy pithiness, juicy pine and tropical NZ notes. Meanwhile a clean, West Coast IPA-like bitterness jousts with the tongue long after the sip – a welcome, and very refreshing, coda that’s anything but cold!
