The Mill Brewery have set their eyes set on New Zealand with a double beer release that lets Kiwi hops shine. In particular, the two beers are united through SubZero Hop Kief; a liquid made from hops that add quite an intense wave of hoppy aromas and flavours. The striking cans meanwhile, are the work of Alex Meagher, a photo artist from Aotearoa who now lives in Melbourne and uses rare, discontinued infrared film to create his work.
Kauri IPA walks a line that’s both smooth and lush while also being quite dry, while it’s Riwaka that's been added SubZero Hop Kief, alongside pellets of the same variety and Nelson Sauvin. It all makes for an IPA that's filled with whole lot of citrus, nectarine, papaya and sweet, somewhat lolly-like green grape that all slide into a lean and bitter finish.
Katipō is a red IPA that was named for New Zealand’s one and only venomous spider (lucky them) and here it’s Nelson Sauvin that’s added via the hoppy liquid. That’s joined by Rakau and further Nelson Sauvin for a fury of fleshy stone fruit, mango, zesty grapefruit and pine that swirl amongst layers of biscuit and caramel.
